“Somerset’s Illuminated Secret”

Each year children compete to take the honour of becoming the Carnival Princess/Prince. They do so by collecting sponsorship money or organising fundraisers with the assistance of their parents/guardians.

On Sunday 11th September, Glastonbury Carnival Committee announced their carnival Royalty.  The Carnival Princess winner is Miss Jorja Hole, aged 7 and  her attendants this year is Miss Caitlin Gibbons aged 6,  Miss Tilly Davis aged 10, Miss Lottie Davis aged 9 and Miss Evie Davis aged 9.

The girls between them raised over £800 and the committee would like to thank everyone who sponsored these lovely young ladies pictured with our chairman Mr Reg Cohen.  Jorja also ran a Balloon race, where the winning balloon owner collected £50 for the farthest ballloon journey.  They will be treated to a lovely afternoon tea and pampering before the official crowning ceremony at 5.45pm on carnival day at the Glastonbury Town Hall.

It was also great this year in that we have a family tradition  Tilly, Lottie and Evie’s mum was carnival princess in 1991.

The sponsors this year are Clarks for the show vouchers and donation, flowers are donated by Mundys, Photographer is Frances Louise Photography from Street providing her services free of charge.  The carnival did have some other young hopefuls who decided to pull out, so if the person you sponsored is not listed in the above names can you please ask for your money to be returned as it has not been handed in.

The competition starts again in January, which gives every entrant 9 months to get sponsors or organise other ways of fundraising. The money we received helps towards the costs of putting on this spectacular event every year.
